Mmmm…Spinach for Breakfast

After work yesterday, I came home and found a renewed energy after dinner.  I think I’m starting to get over the gunk that has invaded my head!  I was really excited about getting back into the gym.  It had been over a week since I’d gone and if I’m paying for a gym…I want to make it worth it.

I found it surprisingly easy to wake up this morning.  Considering how hard it has been to get up the past week, I consider this a victory.  Because I have been sick, I had a really tough time catching my breath while I ran.  I had to walk more than I had planned and didn’t quite make the 3 mile mark (I can’t stay too long or I’m late for work 😦 ) but I was pretty happy with how far I went.  I’ve missed sweating and feeling like I have done something good for my body.  I don’t know if it was the pre-run snack  I had or that I have gotten a lot of sleep over the past couple of days…but I felt great.  Right before I left for the gym I had a Luna Bar in Chocolate Peppermint Stick (it was a freebie from the race on Saturday).  I didn’t love the flavor but then again, I had just recently brushed my teeth.  I’ll have to try it again.  I did like the Peanut Butter Bar that I had the other day.  If I hadn’t had to get off to get ready for work I would have kept going.

Right now I run on the treadmill.  I know everyone says that I should be running outside but there are several things that keep me from doing so.

  • I pay for a gym membership so I want to use it
  • I work out at 5am and I am a small girl so I don’t feel safe outside (even thought it isn’t a scary part of town)
  • I’m worried I will re-injure either one of my feet
  • And I can’t motivate myself at all!

I have tried to run outside but I just cannot keep myself focused.  I’m mentally defeated before I even begin.  I’d like to do my long runs outside while training for this mini but I have trouble making myself go around the block!  How lame.  So for right now, I’ve just done races outside and kept to my treadmill at the gym.  Plus, I have a small support system and the gym.

When I got back, I had some Protein Water from Special K.  It has whey protein in it and I think it helps my body recover better than just water.  I’d like to switch to protein powder after I finish this up and put it in my Green Monsters since I seem to drink one every morning anyway.

This morning, in my Green Monster I added some frozen strawberries.  I might not have put enough in because I could barely taste them.  It was still pretty good though.  I love having my GM in the morning.  It definitely energizes me.

Once I got to work…I took advantage of Free Pastry Day at Starbucks!  I was pretty excited about it.  I got my usually Vanilla Rooibos Tea Latte with fat-free milk and sugar-free vanilla syrup.  Yum!  And then I got a FREE Cinnamon Roll.

Too bad I ate most of it before I took a picture.  I even warmed it up so it was ooey gooey!  I definitely recommend!!!

I packed some grapes for snacks today but they don’t taste very good.  I wonder if I got bad grapes.  They have a weird aftertaste.  Hmmmm…I’m not pleased.

On another note…I am definitely baking this week.  I tried to convince the Hubs to let me bake something for my Bible Study tonight but no dice.  I am going to make something yummy to take when we visit my best friend, Kim, and her husband, Jonathan, this weekend.  Ideas of what I should take?
