Happy Mother’s Day!

10 May

I hope everyone had a great Mother’s Day.  I had a wonderful day before Mother’s Day.  We spent Saturday and Sunday at my in-laws (45 min. outside of Cincinnati) and had a really good time.  We ended up sleeping in much later than we had planned and hit the gym around 10:30.  I was only able to get in about 20 minutes on the elliptical before we had to get cleaned up to hit the road.  I was able to do the elliptical since my ankle swelling had gone down in the past couple of days.  I figured that I would stop if it started to hurt.  I’m happy to report that is was perfectly happy and no pain was involved.

Once at the in-laws, we took them out to eat for Mother’s Day.  My MIL (mother-in-law) decided on Max & Erma’s.  I actually decided to eat the Black Bean Roll-Up appetizer as a meal.  A little spicy but not too bad.  I’m not sure I would get it again (the waitress said it wasn’t spicy but totally lied to me) and stick with my usual soup.

One thing that can be really frustrating is the amount of time it takes to go out to eat with at my in-laws.  We usually drive for at least 45 minutes before there are plenty of choices.  Besides fast food, their town only has Pizza Hut and Gold Star so we always drive for a better selection.  This means that there is plenty of thinking ahead about when to leave and everything like that.  This is completely weird to me since we only drove 5 minutes and were surrounded by restaurants.  I guess that is the advantage of being in the “big city”.

Sunday was not as much fun.  The hubs and I both slept terribly and as a result (I think) woke up with headaches.  After going to church, we made our way back (another 45 minutes) to a little Mexican restaurant, Rincon Mexicano.  I’ve eaten here before but I decided to get something a little different.  I got the taco salad because it allowed me to have lettuce and tomato and I knew it wouldn’t be very complicated.  I am VERY picky about my Mexican food so I try to keep it simple.  And was it good!  I definitely enjoyed it.  Had I not gotten full I might have eaten the whole thing.

We said our goodbyes and made our way home.  I tried really hard not to sleep so instead, I read a book!  The hubs was exhausted and once we were finally home…we both tried to take a nap.  I was unsuccessful but the hubs had no trouble.  I guess I was still entwined in the book because I am a master at sleeping whenever I want!

As the night progressed, I started feeling worse and worse.  I wasn’t hungry but I guess my blood sugar got too low.  Once it gets low (I’m guessing this is the reason.  I’ve never been diagnosed) I start to get really nauseous.  Even though I know that I need to eat something, I can’t until the nausea goes away.  Unfortunately, it never went away.  I went to bed with a headache and nauseous.  I’ve been really good about keeping snacks around to keep that away but it has happened several times within the past 2-3 weeks.  I guess I need to pay better attention!  Has that ever happened to you?

Anywho…I woke up this morning and felt much better.  No headache or nausea.  I got up earlier than I usually do for the gym but found that in all my  ickiness last night, I did not lay out all my work-out clothes.  So I got up 15 mins. earlier than usual and left at about the same time.  That just goes to show you how important it is to be prepared!

Sad news.  I tried to run this morning and had some pain in my ankle.  Since I had another race in a few weeks, I am going to stop all running until the race.  Instead I am going to walk, ride my bike, and get on the elliptical.  I don’t want to injure something before this race so I will stop all activities that are causing pain.  I have a strict regiment of icing as well as foam rolling my calves/shins (they have some knots) with lots and lots of water.

Did you catch that???  I am now a proud owner of a foam roller.  I can’t tell yet what effect it has on my muscles but I am going to continue to foam roll before the race in hopes that I won’t be in pain DURING the race.

Have a great Monday!!!
