Getting Ready

27 Jul

Today is my 2 year anniversary.  I can’t believe it has been 2 years!  For the next week I will be uploading some of my favorite wedding pictures.

26 Jul

Yesterday was a whirlwind.  We got up early to go to church and vote in a new senior pastor.  We’ve spent over 16 months and the Pastor Search Committee went through over 550 resumes!  We then ran home to run to the gym and got ready for HullabaLOU!

HullabaLOU is a brand new music festival at Churchill Downs (where the Kentucky Derby is run) and featured some pretty big names.  The headliners were Bon Jovi, Kenny Chesney and Dave Matthews Band.  It also featured some local artists as well as music legends such as Loretta Lynn (we saw her but didn’t stay long because of the heat).  Here is a photo recap of the day.  Most pictures the hubs took (I’m rubbing off on him!)

Then we went to see Loretta Lynn and headed to the main stage.

Then it was time for the main event…the reason why we paid so much money…and the band that the hubs came to see for the ninth time…DMB!!!

Overall we had a lot of fun.  I would definitely go next year because Churchill Downs did really well with the organization.  I’ve never been to a music festival but the hubs was really impressed so I guess that means something.  There were plenty of chill zones and air conditioned areas and the food wasn’t TERRIBLY expensive although still an arm and a leg.  I will say that I was dehydrated for pretty much the whole day.  Between teh hubs and I, we downed 3 gatorades (maybe 4, I don’t remember), 5.5 bottles of water and a giant diet coke.  Can we say thirsty???

Weekend Whirlwind

26 Jul

Wowee!!!  What a crazy weekend. I am going to breeze through everything so I can get to the good stuff!

I know I didn’t post on Thursday or Friday, but honestly you didn’t miss much.  We met for lunch on Thursday at Wolfgang Puck Express downtown and ended up waiting for over 40 minutes for our food.  They did try to make it better by giving us 1 free meal (which hardly compensates for the fact that we could not eat lunch together because I had to leave and go back to work).  We seem to be having a terrible time with restaurants lately.  Grr.

Friday we had our friend Melanie over and because of the craziness of the conference I passed out on the couch.  I’m a terrible hostess!!!  I also tried to tweek my cookie recipe but it did not come out right.  I blame the brown sugar.

Saturday was awesome because we were able to get back into the gym.  I’m still having trouble doing cardio because it is really hard to breathe.  I am hoping it’s just because I haven’t run in a while.  Anyone else have this problem?

Afterwards we went and got the hubs some new clothes at Old Navy because of his teacher discount of 20% off.  I got some running shorts to wear for races.  They come down to my knees so I don’t have to worry as much about sun burn.  I’ve been looking everywhere for pants like those.  I wanted them to be a little longer but they work and I’m happy!

Then we headed out to P.F. Chang’s for a small anniversary dinner.  We are celebrating in Disney on Friday at California Grill because we spent both our honeymoon and 1st anniversary in Disney.  P.F. Chang’s is our go-to nice restaurant because the hubs loves Chinese food and I will only eat Chinese food at P.F. Chang’s.  Then we stayed up a little too late watching a movie.  🙂

I wanted to upload pictures from the music festival I went to yesterday but WordPress isn’t letting me.  I’ll keep trying and will have a recap as soon as possible!

Conference Mania

22 Jul

Sorry it’s been so long! But you can’t say I didn’t warn you!

Let’s start with Tuesday.  The conference began on Tuesday and I had to look very professional because I would be meeting clients for the first time.  I knew that I would be standing a lot so I grabbed my comfy shoes and headed out into the monsoon.  These happen to be the same boots that Lexi peed on.  I thought it had all been cleaned up and I did the sniff test and thought I was good.  I took some fabric refresher with me since I was going in goloshes and sprayed the shoes once I got into the car.  Little did I know that the heat plus the moisture would make all the nastiness that is cat urine come from the depths of my boots.  I was in trouble!  Luckily the hubs brought me a replacement pair that happened to be brand new.

I was soaking wet from the monsoon (which almost turned my umbrella inside out) and trying to accomplish some work before I had to go to the conference for the whole day.  Since the conference ended around 5 and then there was a Client Reception at 6, I knew it was going to be a looooong day.  By the time it ended, my feet were in so much pain.  I decided not to walk back to work to grab my sandwich for dinner.  Instead I went to Borders (dangerous)!  I ended up buying “The Cookie and Biscuit Bible” that I have been eyeing for a while.  It was on clearance and I had a coupon.  I got it for less than $4.  That’s a LOW price! (envision commercial)

I grabbed a taco at the food court and then headed to the reception.  I wasn’t sure how much there would be to eat and honestly, I wasn’t terribly hungry.  I just didn’t want to be munching on food in front of clients but didn’t want to get so sick I’d be hungry.

I stayed at the reception for about an hour and then walked the 2 blocks back to work to pick up my purse.  I had been carrying around a nice black bag all day for stuff like phone and keys to my office (and my new book) but didn’t want to leave my purse out so I locked it in my desk.  Honestly, those 2 blocks were the most painful 2 blocks of my life for my feet!
We have several entrences into our building, 2 from the street and one from the parking garage.  Long story short, I couldn’t get my keys to work on the street entrences so I had to head all the way around the block and up a flight of stairs to get into the building. Once I got into the building the shoes came off.  Every time my feet had stopped moving, the soles of my feet would start burning.  Not a good sign.

While I wouldn’t normally walk around with bare feet on such gross public carpet, my feet left me no choice.  I also went up the elevator.  I got up to the 4th floor office, put my goloshes on and went home.  I didn’t get home until 7:45ish and I was out on the couch around 8:10.  The hubs tried to get me up and I refused because my feet hurt so bad!  He ended up carrying me but I still had to put weight on them to get ready for bed!

On Wednesday morning, my feet still hurt.  I think I bruised them and I rubbed a whole bunch of skin off my pinkie toe.  Not good!  And I still had another day of the conference.

Since I am the first person in the department in the office usually, I volunteered to come early and set up the table.  I got to work around 7am and headed over around 7:30 to set up.  This time, I wore flats.  So it was a much smoother day.  Nothing really exciting to report either except for the fact that they had ginormous cookies that I ended up eating a bunch of.  So. Good. I am happy to say that the day ended with me going home a little before 4 and then spending the evening riding bikes with the husband and drinking a smoothie.

I did however, take this video of Lexi.  She, unlike any other cat, doesn’t care if you play with her tail.  In fact, she couldn’t care less.  I just learned I could do this and if she showed any signs it hurt, I would stop.  However, she seems to kind of like it!

For some reason the video won’t load.  Head over to facebook to see it!  Just search for The Baking Bride and my page should pop up.  And like me too while you are at it!

No Exercise for Me

19 Jul

I’m starting to get really frustrated.  I want to work out but my leg is really starting to prevent me.  I went this morning and did 10 minutes on the elliptical.  I was having trouble catching my breath so I went to do a few weights.  Everything felt fine and I even did some squats but the rest of the day my leg has ached and itched.  Positive thoughts are more than appreciated! :/

Saturday was the laziest day I’ve had since I can remember.  I had 2 naps and did basically nothing all day.  Sunday, however, was productive.  I made a blueberry pie (recipe here) after church and then we went to see Inception.  I saw it last Monday at an early screening but the hubs hadn’t seen it.  He didn’t love it as much as I did but he still enjoyed it.

After the movie we rushed home and grabbed something quick to eat while cleaning the house.  My Mom, Dad and brother came over to eat the pie and sit on the back porch.  It was really fun just hanging out and getting to be together.

People often ask me how I don’t gain enormous amounts of weight when I bake.  The reason is because I don’t each much, if any of what I bake.  For example, the blueberry pie that I made I did not eat any of.  I’m not a huge blueberry fan but I’m even less a fruit pie person.  I just don’t like my fruit like that.  I love apples but don’t eat baked apples or apple pie.  I’m weird like that.

Anyway, my parents love this recipe as does the hubs.  My brother was even impressed.  This recipe is so easy anyone can do it.  If you need a quick, yummy (according to my critics) blueberry pie recipe, this is it!

I hate to tell you all this but I may not be able to post much this week.  I will do my best but I know that I will be busy with a conference at work from 8am-8pm tomorrow with a 30-45 minute drive home.  Wednesday won’t be much better.  I’ll try to update when possible but I usually update at lunch so I don’t know when I’ll be able to.

Hope I’ll be talking to you sooner rather than later!

Cookie Contender

15 Jul

Remember my White Chocolate Fluffernutter Cookies?  Well, I tried to improve upon it for the cookie competition at work and I succeeded and failed at the same time.  The cookies had a better flavor for the most part but they were flat and a little chewy.  I’m still going to work on it a little bit and I’ll be back with a better recipe when I finish it!

So, that’s what I did last night.  This morning I woke up with my work-out alarm but got confused somehow and thought it was time to go get ready for work.  I guess I assumed that I slept through my work-out alarm like I have been all week.  I didn’t realize I was an hour early until after I took a shower.  I continued getting ready and got to work this morning at 7am.  So now I get to leave at 4pm!  Pretty sweet.  The goal is to go home, change and then head to the gym.  I’m still not sure what I can do with my leg.  Right now it is itching like crazy!  I’m having a reaction to this adhesive as well.   In fact, I’m fighting the urge to scratch as we speak type!

My eating is all out of whack today because of the time change.  But I definitely didn’t miss eating this little gem.

Granola Thins

I love these little suckers!  They help fight my chocolate cravings and are only 90 calories.  They are very satisfying and I’ve been using them as snacks all over the place.  The ingredient list isn’t too bad.  I can pronounce just about everything but I definitely wouldn’t call it health food with the addition of High Maltose Corn Syrup.  But really, that’s the only thing that is really bad in these.  Which means I am going to have to try and recreate it.  They also have peanut butter.

In other news, the hubs is coming home tonight!  I kept it off the blog because I didn’t want to let creepers know I was home alone all week.  He left Monday morning at 5:30am for AP training in our old stomping ground, Morehead.  I’ve definitely missed him.  But you know what I realized about myself?  I’m a scaredy cat!  I have an overactive imagination so I got really freaked out and locked myself in my bedroom every night.  Here’s hoping I don’t have to do that again any time soon!  Regardless, I have a the hubs to look forward to when I get home.  Plus, he needs to taste the cookies and let me know what he thinks!

Here’s something fun for you:

Uneaten Donuts

14 Jul

Hey guys!  Sorry I haven’t posted.  I’ve actually been swamped and haven’t been able to.  Hope you’ll forgive me!  🙂

Monday night was awesome!  I had a date with my Dad and went to a free early screening of Inception.  We both loved it and were on the edge of our seats the whole time.  We were both pretty confused to begin with but as the story unfolded everything started to make sense.  It was a lot of fun for my dad and I to discuss it afterwards!  If you like movies that make you think…this is the movie for you!

Yesterday was a little crazy.  During work I had an appointment with the dermatologist.  I love my dermatologist because I think she is really good and she remembers me.  I’ve been going to her since early high school, maybe even middle school.  I can’t remember.  For a little background: my brother had melanoma and my mom had basil cell carcinoma (a form of skin cancer) around 2 years ago.  I started being really careful with my skin after I started going to the dermatologist and realizing that I am at a high risk.  I never tanned but I did get sunburnt pretty often.  I’m happy to report now that my Dermatologist says I have a perfect complexion and beautiful skin.  It is a lot of hard work and I get a lot of flack for how paranoid I get about being in the sun.  I just don’t want to risk it.  It isn’t worth it to me.

I’ve had over 20 moles removed and 4 cysts.  Several moles have come back as irregular and one came back as pre-cancerous.  I cannot stress the importance of taking care of your skin!  I will happily have all my weird moles removed to make sure my skin stays healthy.  Having moles removed is also a good reason not to get sunburnt or tan.  If I did, my white scars all over my arms would make me polka dotted!

Anyway, yesterday I had 2 warts frozen .  I had no idea they were warts.  I just asked what the bumps were.  Before I could say anything she froze them and they hurt like the dickens.  I’d take a mole removal any day!

I also had one mole removed.  I had been watching it because I didn’t like how it had grown bigger but as soon as the Dr. saw it, she immediately wanted it off.  That makes me nervous!  Here’s hoping that the lab finds nothing wrong with it.  It had a black dot in it.  😦  I asked about my past reactions to bandaid adhesives so the Dr. put gauze and medical tape on my leg instead of the standard bandaid.  I felt hardcore!

The wound is actually only about the size of a pencil eraser.  So this was a little more than I needed so it freaked people out!

Once back in the office, I got an email from my mom asking for a dinner date.  Since I had no plans, we made a date to go to a new restaurant in town, The Pita Pit.  I knew I could get something healthy there.  I got a whole wheat pita with turkey lettuce, tomato and a little bit of cheddar cheese.  They put the turkey on the stove first and it was soooooo good!  Mom got the babaganoush and could barely taste it.  But we both enjoyed it and had a good time talking.  Thanks Mom for dinner!

Before dinner though, I stopped by the new Krispy Kreme that opened in town today.  Now, I know donuts are not healthy.  I’m not claiming that.  But I did want to be part of the opening day action.  I’m sure glad I did.  It was fun!

Krispy Kreme

Hot DonutsHot Donuts getting glazed!!!  I was salivating.

I decided to try two different donuts and got the Cinnamon Twist and the New York Style Cheesecake.  I did not like the cheesecake.  It had a lemon-ish filling that I didn’t care for and the cinnamon twist was nothing special.  Next time I need to stick with the original.  Now, I rarely have donuts because I don’t like the feeling I get afterwards.  I know they are terrible for me so I just don’t have much of an appetite for them.  I’m proud of the fact that I threw these away instead of eating all the extra calories in something that I didn’t love.

Uneaten Donuts

You’ll also notice I haven’t mentioned exercising.  Because I haven’t since last Thursday.  Things have been so crazy around here and my sleeping schedule has been off so I haven’t been able to get up in the morning and go.  And I also haven’t had time to work out in the evening with the movie and everything.  Now I have these warts and mole to deal with so I’m not sure what I can do to work out without irritating either one.  Hopefully tomorrow I can get back on the bandwagon.  I’m definitely missing my morning sweats session!

This morning it took me forever to dress the wound on my leg.  I underestimated and have to rush to get ready and out the door.   Hopefully it will be a wonderful Wednesday!

Do you have any scary skin stories? I’d love to know I’m not the only one who is so paranoid of the sun.  Plus, it’d be nice to show the hubs that I’m not soooooo weird!
